A landmark building in the heart of Ross-shire's county town is set to be given a lift – quite literally.

Dingwall is set for a cash injection of £214,000 from Scottish Government funding to boost town centres across the country.

One of two projects in the spotlight is the installation of a lift into the Town Hall to make it fully accessible to all.

Many have felt that the building – famous locally after the Beatles once played at the venue – has fallen too far into semi-disuse so it is hoped that by having a lift it will broaden its appeal so that it can be brought into greater use in the future.

The second project is the renovation of the toilets situated in the Cromartie car park which have not been in use for a number of years.

It is currently used to warehouse a number of items like the Christmas lights but the new investment aims to “repurpose the former Cromartie Carpark toilets building. This project will bring an old building back into purposeful use.”

Despite the Town Centre Fund investing £214,000 in both projects there was a shortfall of £8000 to be made up.

A proposal seeking the cash has now been submitted to the Dingwall’s common good fund to make up that amount that would effectively greenlight the projects.

The proposal will be heard at the newly constituted Black Isle, Dingwall and Seaforth area committee.
