Hails civic responsibility of Dingwall Academy pupils

A NEW year resolution by pupils at Ross-shire's largest secondary has resulted in a "noticeable improvement", it has been claimed.

Pupils at Dingwall Academy had taken a pledge to reduce the amount of litter and discarded gum ending up on the streets of Ross-shire's county town.

The evidence of this "civic responsibility" has been praised by MSP Dave Thompson, whose constituency office is in Dingwall.

The SNP MSP said, "I was pleased to see that this message of civic responsibility and pride in the appearance of the community is being listened to by local children.

“This year, Dingwall Academy’s New Year resolution was to reduce the amount of litter in the school grounds and on surrounding streets and I am pleased to hear that this has resulted in a noticeable improvement since the turn of the year.

“I am glad that pupils and teachers are doing what they can to keep it that way and the ‘Bin It’ campaign, which involved the school children this morning certainly seemed to be well received by all present.

"Local children appear to be receptive to the message that discarded rubbish has a negative effect on the surroundings where the litter-louts themselves and their families live.”
