Dingwall man jailed for smashing up Inverness prison cell

A prisoner at Inverness became frustrated in his cell and smashed it up, causing £2000 worth of damage.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard that the incident happened on January 29, 2023 and 40-year-old Charles MacLennan's cell was out of service for a time afterwards.

MacLennan, of Hill Street, Dingwall admitted a charge of malicious damage and was jailed for five months.
Defence solicitor Cameron Murdoch told Sheriff Robert Frazer: "He wishes to apologise to the two officers involved who should not have had to be subjected to that kind of behaviour.
"My client was in the care system from the age of two and it had a profound effect on him. I have to concede that his record is appalling."
Sheriff Frazer, who was told that MacLennan was currently on remand for a serious matter, said a prison sentence was the only sentence he could impose.
