Dingwall Community Council has announced that it will stage a hustings for Highland Council election candidates at the newly reopened National Hotel on Thursday evening.

The event will begin at 7.30pm and all seven local authority candidates have been invited with all agreeing to attend in person, except the Greens candidate who requested to appear virtually but this could not be accommodated.

Chairman Jack Shepherd said that people are asked to submit questions of topics of interest to be put to the candidates via the community council’s Facebook page while some others can be taken from the floor on the night.

Mr Shepherd said: “Dingwall Community Council will be holding a hustings event in the National Hotel, on the 21st of April, at 7.30pm. We are actively seeking to advance questions to put to the prospective candidates, through our Facebook pages.

“Questions will also be accepted on the night, although these will be limited due to the time constraints on the time available for answers from the prospective candidates.

“At present, six of the seven prospective candidates have confirmed attendance, with only the Scottish Green Party requesting a virtual attendance, which we cannot cater for at this time.

“Previous hustings have drawn crowds of 70-80 people, so we hope that this event will give the local communities an opportunity to ask their prospective candidates what they hope to achieve on being successfully elected.

“Details of the event shall also be posted on the town notice boards, giving people advance notice to prepare their questions for the event.”
