A HOSPITALITY business’s eco-credentials have gone from strength to strength after it was shortlisted for an ethical award for the second year running.

The Highland Farm Cottages and Café, near Dingwall, has been named among the finalists in this year’s The Federation of Small Businesses’ (FSB) annual Scotland Celebrating Small Business Awards.

Last year, before the café opened, its luxury accommodation won the same Ethical-Green Business of the Year prize in the same competition.

And, following last summer’s opening of the new café – which aims to cater to cycling fans – it looks well placed to repeat that feat in 2019.

The company will find out how it did at an awards lunch in Edinburgh later this month.

And it will be joined by a host of Highland and Islands faces after a record number of companies from the region were shortlisted in this year’s various categories.

In total, more than over 200 businesses are expected gather to celebrate small businesses and self-employed workers, and the huge contribution that they make to the Scottish economy and the country’s communities.

The FSB’s new Highlands and Islands Leader, Tanja Lister of Sutherland’s Kylesku Hotel, said: “I really am delighted to see so many great Highlands and Islands businesses get through to the Scottish finals. The finalists have been selected because they represent some of the most exciting small businesses and self-employed workers in Scotland, and it is a pleasure to see the Highlands and Islands performing so well.”

No other Highland firms are up for the same award, but there are numerous regional hopefuls in other categories. These include Planit Scotland in Inverness, which is up for the Business and Product Innovation Award.

Cruise Loch Ness in Fort Augustus is hoping to bring home Family Business of the Year, and Quarch Technology in Aviemore is shortlisted for International Business.
