It said: "There are plenty of books to choose from for any period you’re interested in, and a selection is listed on our website.
"But we're starting with Norman Macrae's The Romance of a Royal Burgh - Dingwall's Thousand Years published a hundred years ago by our own author, journalist and council officer.
"Our plan is to read parts of it and then discuss it in Dingwall’s Library – starting with the ancient Pictish days when the Conan cross-slab in our window was carved, up to the Vikings that gave the Burgh its name.
"The group discussions will be led by Roland Spencer-Jones, newly-minted Trustee of Dingwall Museum but with many years of experience as chair of the North of Scotland Archaeology Society and knowing the area well on the ground."
Roland said: “Dingwall Museum is a home for Dingwall’s artefacts, pictures and stories, the knowledge of what has happened in this area over the centuries and millennia. With this book group, we are setting all those treasures into a historical context.”
The first meeting of the book group will be in the library staring at 2pm today (Tuesday, December 19).
Anyone attending is invited to read the first three short chapters of the book before going. There are details on the website of where to find them. www.dingwallmuseum.info
