A family dispute between a mother and son got out of control when the woman was pushed over a coffee table onto the floor.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that 39-year-old David Nicholson of Newmore Farm Cottages, Whitehills, Newmore called round to the Bain Drive property in Dingwall on November 27, 2021.

But the pair fell out and after Nicholson shouted and swore at his parent, he then assaulted her.

Nicholson represented himself at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted threatening or abusive behaviour and the attack.

He told Sheriff Gary Aitken: "It was a family dispute that got out of hand."

Nicholson was fined a total of £470.
