THE good folk of Dingwall could have been forgiven for thinking Christmas had come early when they looked out their windows last Friday.

The sight of hundreds of Santa hats bobbing round the streets turned a few heads no doubt.

The festive fun run staged at Dingwall Academy looks set to become an annual event after the success of the inaugural outing. More than 900 pupils stepped out for it.

Head teacher Karen Cormack said: “We were really fortunate with the weather and over 900 pupils took part – it led to some very strange looks around the town. it’s the first time we have done this but hopefully it will become an annual event.”

Ms Cormack paid tribute to the PE department for organising the fun-filled event and to senior pupils for helping ensure that everything ran smoothly. While the emphasis was on fun, there was also a competitive element with a number of runners hitting top pace for the honour of scooping a podium place in the first event of its kind.

First over the line for the boys was Danny McPake followed by Alex Ellen and Sam Christman. Morag Hickey was the first girl to finish. She was followed by Amy Georgeson and Anna Beveridge.
