A quick-thinking teenager told a drug dealer she would take a pill at toilets near Tesco in Dingwall but instead went straight to police.

A man has been jailed for 16 months for trying to supply drugs to three schoolchildren.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard previously how a teenager agreed to take a tablet Ronald Reilly (39) said was valium.

She told him she would consume it in the toilets of the Tesco car park in Dingwall but instead she and two friends went straight to the nearby police station on February 25, 2019.

There they reported what had happened and handed the pill over to officers.

Reilly was subsequently traced to a house in Peffery Road, Dingwall and arrested.

He was still in possession of a number of blister packs containing pills and bags of drugs at the time.

Later analysis determined the drug given to the 14-year-old girl was actually Etizolam, a class C drug, rather than valium.

Reilly, formerly of Dundee but now of Kite Way, Perth, admitted being concerned in the supply of drugs and possession.

Defence solicitor David Duncan said: “My client has a record spanning a number of years. He lost his father in October 2018 and his personal life spiralled out of control.

“He failed to cope with the bereavement and turned to drugs. He was in a very bad place when these offences took place and had no regard for his own safety or wellbeing.

“But things have improved and he has resumed his relationship with the mother of his children and has left Dundee for Perth.”

After he was jailed on Monday, Detective Inspector Ross Hamill said:“We welcome the sentence of Ronald Reilly today and hope this sends a clear message to anyone who is involved in the distribution of drugs.

“Reilly went after our society’s most innocent.

However, thanks to the actions of three quick thinking children, he did not cause anyone serious harm.

I want to thank them for coming forward and doing the right thing.

“The consequences of anyone taking tablets, other than those prescribed to them, can be incredibly dangerous.”
