Dates for five-day overnight A87 Kyleakin Roundabout surfacing improvements near Skye Bridge revealed

Bear Scotland, Transport Scotland’s operating company, will begin essential road surface improvements on the A87 Kyleakin Roundabout, west of Skye Bridge, on Monday, October 23.
To allow the works to be carried out safely, the A87, including the Skye Bridge, will be closed in both directions each night – Monday, October 23 until Friday, October 27 – from 8pm to 6am.
There will be amnesty periods when vehicles will be held at either side of the site until they can be escorted through the area safely, at 9pm, 10pm, midnight, 2am and 4am.
The resurfacing is due to be completed by 6am on Saturday, October 28.
Emergency vehicles will be allowed through at all times.
Kyleakin & Old Kyle Farm Road
Residents can exit Kyleakin/Old Kyle Farm Road at any time and should proceed to the roundabout where they will be escorted through site when it is safe to do so, since no alternative exit is available. Residents entering Kyleakin and Old Kyle Farm Road must wait for amnesties at times listed above.
Bus Services
Bus services will be allowed through the site at any time and should proceed to the roundabout where they will be escorted through site when it is safe to do so. Bus timetables have been consulted in advance to meet this arrangement.
Cycle/Footpath
The cycle/footpath running alongside the A87 will remain open throughout and is unaffected by the works.
The road will be open outside working hours to keep disruption to a minimum, however a speed restriction of 30mph will remain in place as traffic will be running over a temporary surface.
Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s north west Representative said: “This project on the A87 will replace the worn-our road surface, providing a much smoother and safer driving experience for motorists.
“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete the works. We encourage motorists to plan well ahead of their journeys.”
