AN exhibition marking the 75th anniversary of the formation of Czechoslovak squadrons in the RAF was officially opened in Tain last Wednesday.

The exhibition, hosted by Tain and District Museum and held in St Duthus Collegiate Church, is travelling around Britain and will be in Tain until August 5.

It was particularly appropriate that Mrs Marion Fleming, Inver, should be invited to open the exhibition as she and her late husband John, cared for the graves of the 19 Czech airmen of 311 Squadron in St Duthus graveyard, Tain, for many years.

It was a labour of love shared by Mary and Billy Grant, Tain, who were also in attendance.

Members of 379 (County of Ross) SQN Air Training Corps and the Royal British Legion also joined guests to find out more about the young men and women who left their beleaguered country to joined the Royal Airforce and fight against Hitler’s Germany.
