NHS Highland warns that positive Covid-19 coronavirus case numbers have 'tripled' across the health board region 'in only a few days'

POSITIVE Covid case numbers in the NHS Highland area have tripled "in only a few days", the health board has warned as it urged the public to stick to coronavirus restrictions.

A spokeswoman for the health board took to its social media channels on Tuesday to remind people to "abide by the rules" in a bid to stop the virus from surging in the region.

The plea came just hours after the Scottish Government's latest update revealed that the NHS Highland area recorded 152 positive tests in the five days since Christmas Eve.

That rise included two daily increases in excess of 30, and one on Boxing Day where more than 40 cases were recorded.

"Across NHS Highland we have seen numbers of Covid positive cases triple in only a few days," said the NHS Highland spokeswoman.

"Now that all of NHS Highland, apart from some islands, is under level four restrictions, we must abide by the rules so that we can reduce COVID infections."
