AN acclaimed Ross-shire museum has landed a "significant" funding boost that will allow it to employ a full-time curator and ensure the area's treasured heritage is not lost.

The Trustees of The Cromarty Courthouse Museum have voiced delight over a successful bid for funding from Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS) and The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

This funding will enable the museum to employ a full-time curator/manager for two years with the remit to drive community engagement to ensure long-term sustainability and increased financial viability.

Courthouse Museum Trustee Liz Broumley said: “The funding is hugely exciting and so important in securing the future of the museum. It means that the museum will be able to provide the much-needed ongoing care of Cromarty’s notable heritage. We also have many plans for more dynamic interaction with all ages in our community to make sure our local history remains exciting and relevant, so it is not lost.”

Cromarty Courthouse Museum is now in the process of recruiting an experienced and enthusiastic person for post of museum manager/curator to lead it into a more resilient future.

Lucy Casot, CEO of Museums Galleries Scotland, said: “It is vital that we support museums and galleries to continue their important work engaging with communities and telling the stories of their places and people. We’re delighted to support Cromarty Courthouse Museum, through the Museum Development Fund, in its forward thinking approach to ensure the Museum’s long term sustainability for their community.”

Caroline Clark, The National Lottery Heritage Fund Director for Scotland, said: “Our Heritage 2033 strategy sets out as one of our key principles strengthening heritage to be adaptive and financially resilient, contributing to communities and economies.

“Thanks to National Lottery players our funding will support Cromarty Courthouse Museum to develop the skills and capacity to ensure a long-term future that will deliver more engagement and benefits for people of all ages in the community.”

The total amount was just over £118,000.
