Crofters to be asked to donate stone for replacement wall at historic Creich cemetery

Moves are being made towards replacing the existing dilapidated wall which encloses a section of Creich cemetery.

Representatives of Highland Council, Creich Community Council and other interested parties recently met to discuss what should be done with regard to the wall.

The community council was given an update at its meeting last month.

The minutes state: "Discussion revealed the will to create a community project which would over time replace the existing and damaged wall with a dry stone dyke.

"Highland Council policy is for a cement wall but this could be achieved using natural stone.

"Local crofters and farmers would be encouraged to donate stone and remove rubbish.

"Discussions are ongoing."

At the community council's meeting in May it was stated that the condition of the wall was "distressing for mourners and visitors to the site".
