A CROFTER is seeking permission to create a scaled-down glamping site above Dingwall and Strathpeffer.

Landowner Kirk Taylor, who works a small upland livestock farm, originally applied to install four handmade wooden sleeping pods at Heights of Fodderty.

In a revised planning application, he is looking to site just two of the luxury pods, as well as an associated waste treatment tank and soakaway, at a plot just off the A834 and North Coast 500 tourist route.

The structures would be built off-site by Alba bespoke Cabins, with individual parking provided. The development, in all, would cover 2010 square metres of Mr Taylor’s land at Kirkhill Croft with 43 sq m of floorspace.

A site selection report compiled on behalf of the applicant confirmed the proposed site, 105 metres north-west of Broombank, as the most suitable of three potential locations.

The favoured site would “provide beautiful views of rolling hills over the Cromarty Firth” to enhance the development’s marketability.

A design statement said it would provide “subtle and discreet countryside accommodation” for short-break and weekend stays year-round.It would also create one full-time and one part-time job, while contributing income to local shops, pubs and other attractions.

The matter will be considered under Highland Council planning officials delegated powers.
