MORE than 5000 people have already received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, the First Minister has confirmed.

Nicola Sturgeon revealed that 5330 people had received the first of two doses on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The news came as Scotland's total number of confirmed deaths among people who tested positive has now passed the 4000 mark.

Although the full figure is expected to be higher, the number of deaths under that measurement now stands at 4039.

The grim milestone was passed after 50 further deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours.

Across Scotland there have been some 103,305 confirmed cases of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.
