THE "actions of a single man" are likely to make life harder for everyone over the coming months, warns a Highland GP who has fronted a local campaign to tackle the Covid threat for the past two years.

Dr Ross Jaffrey made his remarks on Russian president Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine on the day that Covid-19 passport restrictions end in Scotland.

Dr Jaffrey, who has patients in Muir of Ord and Beauly, set up the Safe Hands, Save Lives campaign at the outbreak of the pandemic to help encourage good hygiene practice as widely as possible to help curb the spread of the virus.

Reflecting on the latest milestone in the Covid recovery programme and unfolding events on the world stage, Dr Jaffrey stated: "The Covid passport restrictions end in Scotland today. The virus remains a concern. Everyone has done an amazing job to help each other. Communities have come together like never before.

"Sadly the actions of a single man in Russia will likely make life so much harder for many people over the next few months. The effects on fuel prices are going to push huge numbers of families into poverty, which will undermine many attempts to level up, and could have a much harder impact on the long-term health of our population.

"Food banks are going to need help. Using them is not a sign of failure for those that have to use them. Try and support these lifelines if you can afford it. Sadly these pending hardships will be nothing compared to those that the population of Ukraine are facing right now.

"https://www.trusselltrust.org has a postcode search tool, and is a charity that helps support local foodbanks. Blythswood coordinate the main depots in Highland."
