Park bosses said they have received positive feedback from today's customers even if they had to endure some wintry showers.

Daska Mackintosh, head of operations and visitor services at the wildlife park, said: “It has been amazing to be able to welcome our wonderful local visitors back to Highland Wildlife Park.

“We know so many people have missed being able to visit and enjoy our wide-open spaces and amazing animals.

“Despite the typical Highland weather, we have had great feedback from those who came along today.

“Every visit helps to feed and care for our animals and protect threatened species in Scotland around the world.”

Owners the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland has stressed it is vital that everyone follows government guidance to protect themselves and others when visiting.

Eligible members of the public must book a time slot online in advance.

The wildlife park can only open outdoors which means its gift shop is closed for now.
