Commenting on news that all over 50s will be offered a further Covid-19 booster vaccination from September, Age Scotland’s head of policy Adam Stachura said: “With rising cases of Covid-19 across Scotland this announcement is good and sensible news.

"It is also one which many will have been hoping for, as we clearly aren’t out of the woods yet. One of the most powerful tools we have to protect against this deadly virus is a vaccine, so ensuring easy access to it for those most at risk of severe ill health is vital.

“It is also incredibly important that our crucial health and social care services are able to function effectively through autumn and winter so that anyone can receive the medical attention or support that they need, as many have gone without for a very long time.

"The vaccine will no doubt play an important role in helping achieving that.

“Future variants may also cause new and unknown challenges, so it is important that caution isn’t thrown to the wind, and we keep looking out for one another and reduce its transmission.”
