A motorist who was caught by police twice driving with drugs in his system within seven weeks was fined a total of £740 at Inverness Sheriff Court.

Calum Alsop of Black Bus, Garve but has now moved to Ullapool, admitted being over five times the safe driving limit on September 28, 2021 when driving on the A835 at Contin.

He had a reading of 270mcgs of a cocaine metabolite when the maximum is 50mcgs.

Sheriff Sara Matheson was told that Alsop was stopped again on November 13 in High Street, Dingwall and was seven times the limit.

The 31 year old had a reading of 349mcgs of the cocaine metabolite.

Defence solicitor advocate Neil Wilson said: "People are slowly learning that using illicit substances on a recreational basis is not compatible with having a driving licence.

"This was a case of the morning after and the evening before. He has now stopped taking them," Mr Wilson added.

Labourer Alsop was also banned from driving for two years.
