BLACK Isle gym rats addicted to running, rowing, crunching and lifting weights have been able to give their workouts a state-of-the-art makeover thanks to the investment in new equipment.

Councillors have now seen for themselves the gear now on offer at Black Isle Leisure Centre, part of a High Life Highland network which bosses hope will become first choice for people of all ages across the region.

People living in the Black Isle and surrounding area using the Fortrose facility now have an expanded fitness suite, with a wider range of equipment. This includes a dual adjustable pulley, Olympic flat bench, half rack, abdominal crunch, low row, adjustable bench, skill row, skill bench and upgraded treadmills.

In addition, the fitness suite has been expanded to a larger area.

Local councillors Lyndsey Johnston and Morven-May MacCallum visited to find out more about the new facilities on offer at the gym.

Councillor Lyndsey Johnston, chair of the Black Isle Committee, said: “The Black Isle Leisure Centre is a well-used facility in our local community and it is really great to see these improvements to the gym that will bring benefits to people living throughout the area. The new equipment and expanded area for the gym within the centre makes for a much better experience for people at this facility, keeping them accessible for all.”

Councillor Morven-May MacCallum, vice-chair of the Black Isle Committee, said: “I was pleased to see the upgrades to the gym. It is a well used facility in the local area and its good that we can now offer these improved gym facilities for everyone. It's important that we keep upgrading our facilities to ensure a good experience for everyone.”

Mark Tate, chair of the HLH Board, said: “Ensuring that affordable access to leisure, swimming and gym facilities is available to communities throughout the Highlands is key for High Life Highland. We aim to support the wellbeing of our communities, particularly during this time of increasing pressures on all of our finances. Our highlife membership offers affordable access to a whole range of facilities, including those at Black Isle Leisure Centre, so come along and find out more about what’s on offer, and the range of membership options available."

Ian Goode, Black Isle Leisure Centre manager, said: "It's great to have the new equipment in place and to see it well used by existing and so many new members. I’d encourage people in the area to come along to see what is on offer – and you can sign up for a highlife membership during your visit too, giving you and your family the option to get access to a wide range of facilities at an affordable price!”
