Four LibDem Councillors will this week call on Highland Council to reinstate its “flexible and additional bin collection scheme” around the NC500.

In previous years bins were overflowing and rubbish scattered in the wind blighting beauty spots across the north.

Now Cllrs Richard Gale, Michael Baird, Jan McEwan and Angela MacLean have signed a notice of motion calling on action from the local authority.

They argue the move “made a significant difference to the levels of waste that was abandoned in some of the most scenic parts of the Highlands.”

The motion stated: "Last year the council waste collection services innovatively introduced a flexible and additional bin collection scheme which made a significant difference to the levels of waste that was abandoned in some of the most scenic parts of the Highlands.

"Local communities have commented on what a positive difference this initiative made around the NC500 route."

Adding that this will “ensure that we make the NC500 route memorable for all the right reasons” for locals and visitors.
