Highland Council says overhaul of its £40 million IT systems contract is making 'substantial progress'

One of the key objectives of a major change to IT at Highland Council has made “substantial progress,” according to an update to this week’s corporate resources committee.
Dubbed Project Dochas, the local authority wants to transfer the operation of its IT systems in-house in a bid to create jobs and save money.
That means the overhaul of its £40 million IT contract with Indian firm Wipro.
Jon Shepherd, interim head of ICT and digital transformation: “Substantial progress has been made with recruitment including to the new in-house team recruitment and the preparations to transfer staff from Wipro into the council.
“We continue to receive full cooperation from Wipro. A greater understanding and certainty about costs – and within budget – has also enabled improvement.”
He added: “Key to a successful transfer of service is the continuity of as many of the staff as possible who are currently providing service for Wipro.”
