PREPARATIONS for the return to school in the Highlands following the pandemic lockdown have won positive feedback from Education Scotland.

Highland Council’s Education Improvement Team (EIT) has been praised by Education Scotland for the council’s local delivery planning and return to school prep work.

Chairman of the education committee, Councillor John Finlayson, said: “There has been a considerable amount of work taking place behind the scenes to enable our return to Highland schools. It is great to see this work being recognised by a national body, and their positive response to our plans, only reaffirms that we have taken the right approach for our pupils and staff”.

In June, the council submitted its Local Delivery Phasing Plan to the Scottish Government. The document was informed by the work which was completed to support schools during lockdown and the council’s plans for the reopening of education settings. The Scottish Government, through Education Scotland/HMI, provided feedback which expressed praise for the quality of the work represented.

Head of education, Nicky Grant, said: “The Covid-19 crisis resulted in the EIT having to respond with versatility to the emerging issues and difficulties as they arose, and much of this versatility was essential at a local school level.

"It is crucially important, moving forward, that this is maintained to ensure that the dedication and abilities of the EIT members, working with all of our learner settings, is harnessed correctly to bring about measurable improvements in Highland education”.
