Highland Council has issued coronavirus guidance to its 9500 staff.

It has also been sent to councillors and associated organisations like High Life Highland.

And there will be no special hygiene-related procedures in place for tomorrow’s crunch budget meeting which will be attended by councillors, officers, the public and the media.

The council's advice has centred on self-isolation, hygiene, travel, symptoms, and response to possible infection.

Managers across the authority have been asked to be on the lookout for tell-tale signs of infection, though the council believes the risk of catching coronavirus is “currently extremely low”.

Employees have been told to immediately isolate themselves from colleagues if they become unwell at work after recently returning from an area affected by coronavirus.

They must also do what they can to avoid touching anything, use separate bathrooms if possible and seek medical advice.

Some of the measures being taken include school trips being risk assessed for approval up to 30 days in advance.

Department heads are also being asked to review and update continuity plans so that services can still be delivered in the event of staff being unwell.
