HIGHLAND Council says it will relax some of its restrictions in a bid to help tourist operators make the most of the limited season now available to them.

It follows the recent publication of its Supporting Economic Recovery in Highland – A Guide for Businesses and will assist tourist accommodation providers hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.

It says a number of specific planning and licensing controls in relation to occupancy will be relaxed, such as a restriction on the occupancy of any caravan for a continuous 12-month period.

The measures it has announced will be relaxed until April 2021.

Chairman of the recovery board, depute leader Alasdair Christie said: "This temporary relaxation is aimed at providing a welcome support for our Highland tourism economy. This should enable operators to maximise revenue for the remainder of the year without concern of the council taking action under the planning and licensing acts. We hope that this is of some assistance to local business recovery.”
