ROSS-SHIRE theatre buffs and culture vultures missing their regular fix of drama are being invited to a front row seat for a special production tonight.

The National Theatre’s production of Jane Eyre will be shown on its You Tube channel tonight at 7pm as part of the National Theatre at Home series.

Almost 170 years on, Charlotte Brontë’s story of the trailblazing Jane is as inspiring as ever. Described as a "bold and dynamic", the play uncovers one woman’s fight for freedom and fulfilment on her own terms.

The acclaimed re-imagining of Brontë's masterpiece was first staged by Bristol Old Vic in 2015 and transferred to the National in the same year with a revival in 2017.

During this unprecedented time which has seen the closure of theatres, cinemas and schools, the series aims to provide access to content online to serve audiences in their homes. Audiences around the world can stream NT Live productions for free via YouTube every Thursday at 7pm. Performances will then be available on demand for seven days.

From her beginnings as a destitute orphan, Jane Eyre’s spirited heroine faces life’s obstacles head-on, surviving poverty, injustice and the discovery of bitter betrayal before taking the ultimate decision to follow her heart.

Following Jane Eyre, Bryony Lavery’s adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island will be screened on April 16, and Twelfth Night on April 23, featuring Tamsin Greig as Malvolia in Shakespeare's classic comedy. Further titles will be announced.
