A dog owner from Easter Ross believes his treasured working dog was almost stolen in front of his eyes.

Posting on social media as a warning to other dog owners, Liam Perks said he was training his dog near Ferry Point in Dingwall when he was approached by two strangers who shockingly tried to grab his dog.

Police have been made aware of the incident by Mr Perks.

Mr Perks, who works in the area, said: "Please keep sharing and make people aware of this. I do t want anyone having their dog taken.

"On Sunday, someone tried to grab my spaniel from right in front of me!

"I was doing some training with him, he’s a working springer, next to the caravan park down near the old ferry point, when I was approached by a youngish couple who chatted away to me for a few minutes.

"When they asked me what I did with him, I sent him away for a dummy I threw previous to talking to them.

"I had my back turned to the lady and hadn’t noticed she had started walking away, she was a fair distance away by the time my dog had started coming back, as he returned, the guy tried to grab Ollie who thankfully dodged him.

"Ollie is very weary of other folk."

He continued: "I had some serious words with the guy who literally shrugged his shoulders, began speaking in his native tongue again like he didn’t understand me, and turned and walked off."

Mr Perks said the man was of a stocky build and shaved head, and was wearing blue jeans and white top with writing on it.

He added: "Be careful folks."

A police spokeswoman said they were aware of the incident.
