Highland police welcome hefty fine and driving ban handed down at Tain Sheriff Court to dangerous drivers in high-performance cars caught on Ross-shire roads

Highland police have welcomed the sentencing of two drivers who recently appeared at Tain Sherriff Court and plead guilty to dangerous driving offences.
John Cowen (44) from Hertfordshire, and Gary Foster-Jones (58), from Essex, both admitted to speeding, driving dangerously and overtaking in the face of oncoming traffic.
They were using high performance sports cars at the time - a Lamborghini Aventador and a McLaren 720. The offences took place on the A9 near Tain and on the A832 in Aultbea in June 2021.
Cowen was fined £2475 and banned from driving for 12 months.
Foster-Jones was fined £4175 and also banned from driving for 12 months.

Inspector Donnie Mackinnon, from the divisional Road Policing Unit, said: “The dangerous driving demonstrated by these men shows a complete disregard for road safety and for those living in our communities.
“We recognise the Highlands area attracts a large number of visitors, particularly in the summer months, and it's vital we all make responsible decisions while on the roads. We continue to patrol throughout the year and will carry out robust enforcement where appropriate.
“Speeding substantially increases the likelihood of being involved in a collision, the consequences of which can be catastrophic, so please think carefully about your actions and don’t put yourself and others at risk."
