ROSS-SHIRE communities hoping to benefit from a fundraising boost from a visiting 'salmon wagon' are being urged to get their bids in before the end of the year.

Mowi's food truck has helped a variety of groups from Achiltibuie to Kyle of Lochalsh and beyond boost their coffers at local fundraising events by donating all proceeds during visits to the causes.

Around £14,000 has been raised for groups since the eye-catching wagon was launched three years ago with barbequed salmon dishes being served up at 26events and festivals.

Arriving at events fully stocked and staffed by Mowi, all proceeds from the sale of food goes to the local causes chosen.

Jayne MacKay, community engagement officer at Mowi Scotland, said: “In its second summer on the road, we are delighted that the Salmon Wagon has raised a significant amount for many worthy causes. Having attended the events, which ranged from village galas and agricultural shows, to Highland games and festivals, we are lucky enough to have met firsthand the charities and communities that will benefit from the funds raised."

She said: "We can't wait to learn more about some of the fantastic events scheduled for next summer as we seek applications for 2024 and make the difficult decision of which ones to support."

Communities and local organisations keen for a Salmon Wagon visit to their 2024 event are now invited to apply online.

The application phase for 2024 will close on December 31, 2023.

Events which have been previously unsuccessful in their applications are welcome to apply again. Mowi’s panel will meet in January with successful applicants announced in February 2024.
