DOZENS of food box deliveries to those in need, and the "tremendous" efforts of the wider community, have been praised by an Easter Ross community council as it reflects upon the area's public spirit in the wake of the coronavirus lockdown.

Balintore/Hilton Community Council said that, in one week, some 85 food boxes were sent out by Ccast alone to local families, topped up with potatoes and food oil. Other groups also supplied boxes of vegetables and fruit to people.

They also praised continued donations of "boxes of eggs and a continuous supply of potatoes".

"What a week it has been – Covid-19 really has affected everyone and no one can fail to be touched by the togetherness of people throughout the United Kingdom," said a spokesman for the community council.

"In our small corner of the Seaboard Villages, Fearn and Nigg we have seen a tremendous amount of work being pulled together by so many. You guys all know who you are and hopefully in the near future we can have a 'hooley' and do a proper thank you to you all.

"Ccast, Blythswood, and local farmers have all been instrumental in providing food and essentials for the many in our communities that have been hit by Covid-19 through loss of earnings and having to wait four-to-five weeks before benefits come into force.

"The Seaboard Hall has come together to provide 'Meals on Wheels' and this will run on a Tuesday and Friday providing food to all those that register by contacting Chris on 01862 83288.

"Our local Ministers can be seen, during their exercise time, out and about with mobile phones etc., doing selfies and videoing live for daily and Sunday services. This has been truly appreciated by many.

"I have been told so many times this week, 'What a wonderful place we live in', and that is not just for the views that surround us but for the people that live amongst us and next door to us. Be safe all."
