MOTORISTS in Inverness were facing major disruption on Thursday afternoon after "emergency roadworks" closed the A82 to "all northbound traffic" near the Longman roundabout.

Traffic Scotland has warned that "all northbound traffic" between Henderson Road and the Longman Roundabout is affected by the roadworks.

"Road users are advised to follow the signed diversion and expect longer than normal journey times," they warned, in an update at 1.02pm.

It is understood a collapsed drain has sparked the emergency roadworks, and live traffic maps in Inverness are showing very slow moving traffic on a number of roads in and around the city centre.

Stagecoach has also warned passengers of delays of up to 25 minutes.

In a Tweet shortly after 1.30pm, the bus company said: "Due to road works at Longman Road in Inverness all services heading north – 25s, x25s, 26 and 27s – are subject to delays of up to 25 minutes.
