Songwriting sensation Gerry Cinnamon has been announced as Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival’s "secret guest".

The singer-songwriter, who famously prides himself on being an independent artist, sold out the Ironworks in Inverness earlier this year in less than three minutes, and last week played to a capacity crowd at TRNSMT in Glasgow.

Belladrum promoter Joe Gibbs said: "The cat is out of the bag, we are delighted to be welcoming the force of nature that is Gerry Cinnamon to Belladrum for the first time.

"The buzz and excitement around Gerry right now is incredible and this is set to be one of those must-see moments."

Speaking of the energy surrounding him, Cinnamon told the HN earlier this year: "I think it’s happening for a number of reasons. The tunes are a major part. If half the bands nowadays spent even a fraction of the time writing that they do posing on social media they’d be flying, but there’s no telling them.

"Folk are sick of being marketed to with empty music that doesn’t mean anything – I am anyway.

"I put the link for the album out once thinking if it was real, folk would find it themselves. It went straight to the top of the album charts and the shows are getting bigger and bigger, they’re selling out in minutes with no marketing, no media exposure and no radio. If that doesn’t prove my point I don’t know what will.

"People are rejecting the mainstream and finding their own music rather than being told what to listen to by people who couldn’t write a decent tune if their lives depended on it."

Belladrum runs from August 2-4 and Cinnamon is due to perform on August 4.
