DINGWALL Gaelic Choir are looking for a new conductor.

The choir, that has been in existence for almost 70 years, said the hunt is under way for new singers and leadership.

A spokeswoman for the group said: "Dingwall Gaelic Choir resumes regular practices for the new season at Dingwall Academy on Thursday evening, [November 4] from 7pm till 9pm and will be delighted to welcome new members in all sections.

"The choir competes yearly at provincial and National Mods and is also diverse in that many musical items are performed in English at other events, therefore fluency in Gaelic is not essential as every encouragement and help is given.

With its long history and many awards over the years under great leadership, the time has come for the choir to seek a new conductor.

"In early 2019 the choir’s assistant conductor, Ross Brindle, agreed to take on the role of conductor on a temporary basis, but as a result of the pandemic, has lead the choir as conductor for almost three years.

"Formed in 1954 the choir plans to have a year of celebration for its 70th anniversary in 2024 when it is hoped normal life will have fully returned. Enquiries are currently being received to perform at local charitable events, including Christmas carol singing.

"An invitation has also been received to join with the renowned Glasgow Phoenix Choir during its Highland Tour in September 2023 commencing with a concert at the Strathpeffer Pavilion.

"If you feel you would like to join Dingwall Gaelic Choir whether soprano, alto, tenor or bass - please come along and meet the members in the foyer of Dingwall Academy this Thursday or indeed any Thursday, where you will be sure of a warm welcome and if there is someone out there who feels they have the musical ability and enthusiasm to lead the choir as conductor, please do not hesitate to obtain further information by emailing Info@dingwallgaelicchoir.co.uk."
