MEMBERS of the public will be given the opportunity to find out first-hand what’s being planned as part of £20million development proposals at an Easter Ross port.

The Cromarty Firth Port Authority — which has been bitterly criticised for a lack of consultation over its expansion plans on to Invergordon’s Linear Park — is pressing ahead with its seventh annual family open day next Saturday (June 23).

In addition to an opportunity to tour the port and support the work of the RNLI, visitors will be invited to view the CFPA’s development plans and discuss them with chief executive, Ken Gray.

The agency has been criticised for pressing ahead with development of the amenity area under “permitted rights” and without any significant public consultation.

The open day is being presented as an opportunity to find out more.

It’s being held in partnership with the RNLI, to which all proceeds will be donated. Last year’s event raised £3,000 for the Invergordon lifeboat station.

The pilot boat and the RNLI lifeboat will be open to the public on the day with the Black Rock Ceilidh band providing music and a programme of traditional Highland dancing and piping.

It’s hoped the an air and sea rescue helicopter will be put through its paces on the Cromarty Firth and a variety of craft stalls will also be available.

The emergency services will also be present. Also planned is a “Fat Yak kayak race”.

The port's development plans will be on view. Work at Linear Park has proved highly controversial to date.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to “walk on water” — in one of two hamster-style balls.

The event takes place on Saturday, June 23, 11am to 4pm at the Port office, Shore Road, Invergordon.
