Pedigree Aberdeen Angus achieves top price at Dingwall Mart while 'Blue Grass' cattle attract 'frenzied inquiry of bidding'

DINGWALL and Highland Marts Ltd today sold 320 adult head of breeding cattle.

Heifer with heifer calf (4) sold to £1,600 gross for a Beef Shorthorn with a September born Beef Shorthorn cross calf from Chapelton East, Nethy Bridge.

Heifer with male calf (2) sold to £1,900 gross for a Limousin cross with a September born Limousin cross calf from Balmaglaster Farm, South Laggan.

Cow with heifer calf (19) sold to £1,450 gross for a Limousin cross with a May born Limousin cross calf from the Pathside Farm, Keith.

Cow with male calf (18) sold to £1,550 gross for a Charolais cross with a May born Limousin cross calf also from Pathside Farm, Keith.

In calf heifers (153) sold to £2,500 gross for a British Blue cross from Coul Estate. Laggan.

In calf cows (97) sold to £1,900 gross for an Aberdeen Angus cross from Ardross Castle, Alness.

Bulls (10) sold to £4,600 gross for an Aberdeen Angus from Fodderletter Farm, Tomintoul.

Bulling heifers (17) sold to £1,380 gross for an Aberdeen Angus from Waternish Farm, Isle of Skye.

The verdict: “The annual in calf heifer and breeding cattle sale saw potential purchasers being very selective in obtaining units for their herd. Anything with style, shape or a pleasing colour to the eye was greeted with a fair bit of interest, however if the aforementioned qualities were slightly lacking a more hesitant enquiry was had.

"A particular highlight of the sale was the 'Blue Grass' cattle consigned by Coul Estate, expertly turned out and were looking a real picture, a frenzied inquiry of bidding was seen as when one person stopped another started.

"This consignment achieved the day’s top gross price and her average. The small number of bulls forward met a grand trade, headed by a two-year-old Pedigree Aberdeen Angus consigned by Mr M Robertson, Fodderletter, achieving the day’s overall top price of £4,600.”
