Cattle and sheep prices from Dingwall Mart today

DINGWALL and Highland Marts Ltd sold six cattle and 521 sheep today.

Prime bullocks (1) averaged 256.0p per kg (-4.0p) and sold to 256.0p per kg and £1,843.20 gross for a 720kg Charolais cross Easter Sheep Park, Balblair.

Prime heifers (5) averaged 263.0p per kg (+8.0p) and sold to 276.0p per kg for a 585kg Charolais cross from Easter Sheep Park, Balblair selling to Messrs Fraser Brothers, Butchers, Dingwall and £1825.00 gross for a 730kg Aberdeen Angus cross also from Easter Sheep Park, Balblair.

Heifers: Greenlands, Arabella, (CharX), 270.0p, 263.0p, (BSH), 260.0p, Easter Sheep Park, (AAX), 250.0p.

Old season lambs (308) sold to 226.8p per kg for a pen of 48.5kg Beltex Crosses from Smallburn Farms, Elgin and £111 gross for a 51.5kg Texel Cross also from Smallburn Farms.

SQQ Lambs 25.5kg to 45.5kg (114) averaged 212.4p (-9.7p) and sold to 224.7p.

Feeding sheep (213) sold to £176 gross for a Texel Ewe from 2 Dounie, Edderton.

The verdict: “Hoggs are unfortunately continuing to follow the falling national trade. All classes were less on the week. Ewe trade however remains a little more buoyant. All classes were every bit as dear as last week and more are required to satisfy demand.”
