CASTLE Leod is opening its doors for an antiques roadshow-style event to raise restoration and maintenance costs for the building.

Specialists from Bonhams will donate their time and expertise for the day and anyone can turn up at the castle near Strathpeffer to learn the value of their collectables.

Visitors are asked to book ahead and donations of £5 per item or £10 for three items are suggested. The funds will be donated to the Clan Mackenzie Charitable Trust, which oversees Castle Leod, home to the Earls of Cromartie and the Mackenzie Clan.

A spokesman for Bonhams said: "The market for antiques has changed over the past couple of decades with different articles now more popular and nowhere is this more noticeable than the Chinese market.

"With the Scots being great travellers around the globe, many works of art were brought back home by our ancestors and the Chinese are prepared to bid large sums to buy them back or indeed buy our Whisky. Have you looked for that rare or unusual item on the back of your cupboard?

"Book an appointment if you wish to know the value of your jewellery, silver, paintings, antiques in general and of course whisky, the latest craze in collecting."

To book an appointment for the event, which will be held on Tuesday, October 30 from 10am to 4pm, email edinburgh@bonhams.com
