A CARE home has closed to admissions after a staff member contracted Covid-19.

A housekeeper at St Olaf Care Home in Nairn tested positive for the coronavirus as part of its weekly staff testing programme, its owners Meallmore have confirmed.

But it has moved to reassure families that the staff member had no direct contact with residents and no further cases have yet been reported.

A spokesperson from St Olaf said: “Last week as part of our weekly staff testing programme, one staff member at St Olaf tested positive for Covid-19.

"This staff member is part of our housekeeping team and had no direct resident contact. As a precautionary measure St Olaf is currently closed to admissions, but no residents have been affected.

"The health and safety of our residents and staff is always our top priority. Thorough infection control measures are in place in the care home and we are communicating regularly with the families of our residents.’’
