THE FAMILY of a North Kessock boy battling with a rare terminal illness are calling for the community to send birthday cards to celebrate is 10th birthday.
Reece Mitchell (9) was diagnosed with the CLN2 variant of Batten disease – which has left him unable to walk, talk, see and eat among other issues – when he was 5.
In a post on Reece’s Battens Journey Facebook page, the family is asking for people to mark his birthday in four weeks, saying that despite his life expectancy being 12, many children affected by the disease never make it to double figures.
It comes as Reece's mum, Donna, has called out today to raise awareness on the disease on Batten Awareness Day today (Friday, June 9).
Cards can posted to 35 Ferry Brae, North Kessock, Inverness, Scotland, IV1 3Y
