Highland Liberal Democrats have announced the full slate of Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross candidates for the Highland Council elections on May 5, including the former MSP contender Molly Nolan.

Currently the Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross seat in Westminster is held by veteran Liberal Democrat MP Jamie Stone.

The equivalent seat in Holyrood is held by the SNP’s Maree Todd.

The Scottish Lib Dem leader Alex Cole Hamilton said the choice was one between “centralisation and funding cuts at the hands of the SNP” or “strong local representation with the Liberal Democrats.

The team to contest the council elections is as follows:

  • Thurso and North West Caithness: Ron Gunn
  • Wick and East Caithness: Jan McEwan MBE
  • East Sutherland and Edderton: Richard Gale
  • North, West and Central Sutherland: Michael Baird
  • Tain and Easter Ross: Sarah Rawlings
  • Cromarty Firth: Molly Nolan

Mr Stone said: “I am delighted we have such a cracking team of Liberal Democrats standing to represent their communities at the upcoming Highland Council election.

“It is a privilege to work for people in Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross as your local MP, but I know we can achieve more with a strong team of Lib Dem councillors to help too.

“Please give your first preference to your local Liberal Democrat candidate on Thursday 5th May so we can work together to tackle the issues you care about.”

Alasdair Christie, Highland Council Liberal Democrat Group Leader said: "Over the past five years, Highland Liberal Democrat councillors have worked incredibly hard to champion communities all over the Highlands. Looking ahead to May, I am proud that we have a fantastic team of candidates to build upon that good work."

Scottish Liberal Democrat leader, Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP, added: “The strength of our candidate slate shows that it is the Liberal Democrats who are standing up for people in the Highlands.

“The choice on May 5 is clear: strong local representation with the Liberal Democrats, or yet more centralisation and funding cuts at the hands of the SNP.”
