LABOUR has announced its candidate to contest the Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross seat in the next General Election.

Bill Curran was unanimously selected by the constituency's Labour Party as its prospective parliamentary candidate.

Mr Curran lives in Lybster with his wife and sheepdog Sid on their croft.

"Bill spent most of his working life as a psychiatric nurse but as a young man had many low wage, casual jobs. He knows from personal experience how tough life can be," said a spokesman for the party.

"He will make an excellent, hard working MP, representing our area with the determination we need to highlight the pressing issues we face."

The seat is currently held by the Liberal Democrats's Jamie Stone.
