Buyers and sellers flock to market town of Dingwall for 'phenomenal' annual Cheviot show and sale at mart

DINGWALL and Highland marts Ltd sold 616 rams at its Great Annual Show and Sale of North Country Cheviot Hill Rams.

The mart said there had been a "phenomenal" clearance rate

The Judge Mr S. MacKinnon, of McCaig Farms, awarded the overall champion to a 5 Shear from Badanloch Estate, Kinbrace.

The Reserve Champion award went to a 2 Shear from Whitefield, Alnwick.

Shearlings (65) sold to £2,800 gross twice from Craiglands, Fortrose.

Two Shears (448) sold to £5,000 gross from Balnakeil, Galashiels.

Three Shears (82) sold to £3,000 gross from Castle of Mey, Mey.

Four Shears (15) sold to £2,000 gross from Loch Naver Estate.

Aged (6) sold to £8,500 gross from Badanloch, Kinbrace.

The mart verdict: “A mass Highland gathering descended on the town of Dingwall as purchasers and vendors from near and far flocked to the Highland market for the annual Cheviot and continental tup fair.

"The Cheviot tups met a fierce enquiry with bidding from all directions leading to a phenomenal clearance rate of over 90 per cent and an average of £650.73. Top price of the day was shelled out for a 5 shear tup from Badanloch which realised £8,500 to K. M. & K. J. Curwen, Marshaw Farm.

"Across the hall to ring 2 where the Suffolk and continental stage was set and trade was equally as brisk as in the Cheviot ring with another fantastic clearance rate being achieved.”
