THE former boss of Ross-shire salmon supplier Aquascot has capped his career with the company by winning a prestigious award from the Institute of Directors (IoD) Scotland.

Niall MacDonald stepped down earlier this year as managing director of Alness-based Aquascot, which supplies fish to high-end retailers such as Waitrose and online supermarket Ocado. He has since joined Glasgow-based Mediascape.

Mr MacDonald was named Highlands and Islands Enterprise regional director of the year, with the judges commenting: “Niall has created a culture that has enabled the business to embark on an ambitious five-year growth strategy in addition to further developing and deepening Aquascot’s relationship with key customers.

“Niall recognises the importance of continuous learning, both for himself and his team.”

The Alness-based firm clocked record sales during the coronavirus lockdown as demand spiked.

The Highlands had another prize-winner among the 19 awards announced on the night, with Dunnet Bay Distillery co-founder Martin Murray recognised with the Scottish Government director of the year award for innovation.
