A RECORD number of entries ensured there was a "magnificent display" of fruit, flowers and vegetables at this year’s Black Isle Horticultural Society Summer Show.

The event, in Rosemarkie’s Gordon Hall last Saturday, attracted more than 400 exhibits – ranging from produce to crafts, preserves and photos.

There were more than 60 different exhibitors, including many first-time entrants to the show.

And organisers were delighted at the large turnout, which came despite the summer’s drier than normal condition.

"Highlights included large displays of soft fruit and vegetables, and a spectacular display of fuchsias, begonias, and geraniums in the pot plant section, obviously benefitting from the hot sunny summer," said show secretary Graham Sullivan.

"The food and preserves judges were faced with the daunting task of tasting and selecting winners from many carrot cakes, apple pies, ginger snaps and fruit scones, and numerous pots of jams and jellies.

"The Young People’s section attracted a large entry of decorated flower pots, and the winner was Eilidh Simpson, Munlochy, with Lucy Brown from Dingwall second and Sophie Agnew of Munlochy third," he added.

Black Isle Councillor Craig Fraser presented the trophies to the winners.

New exhibitors are always welcome in all sections of the show.
