A 34-year old Easter Ross man who assaulted another man with a broom handle in the car park of Tesco in Eastfield Way, Inverness has been fined £320.

Ryan Brodie of Riverside Road, Alness, admitted assaulting Craig Robertson on November 27 last year by punching him repeatedly on the head and body and striking him repeatedly with the broom handle.

In written submissions provided for Sheriff Sara Matheson at Inverness Sheriff Court, the prosecution stated that Brodie invited Mr Robertson out of the store and then attacked him.

Mr Robertson retaliated in self-defence before escaping in his car, the court was told.

Defence solicitor Neil Wilson wrote that Mr Robertson was the new partner of his client's ex and there had been a chance meeting.

Mr Wilson added that there was a discussion about a family matter and Brodie lost his temper.

"He is embarrassed and ashamed of his actions." Mr Wilson went on.
