HEAVY snow in parts of Ross-shire has prompted a "take care" appeal to motorists with reports of multiple vehicles getting into difficulties on the A835 Ullapool road.

The Met Office yesterday issued a weather warning covering much of the Highlands, warning of sub-zero temperatures, icy patches on roads and heavy snow in some areas.

Traffic Scotland shared reports of several vehicles becoming stuck in snow on the A835 between Ullapool and Braemore this evening.

It has flagged an accident at Gorstan on the A835/A832 with "all lanes restricted in both directions".

BEAR Scotland, which manages and maintains the North West Trunk Road Unit on behalf of Transport Scotland, this afternoon posted pictures of one of its tractors on the A835 in Wester Ross in heavy snow.

It posted: "One of our tractors out on the #A835 at #Braemore, heavy snow on this route right now along with the #A9 at #Ord. We also have gritters out treating routes and dealing with any snow but please #DriveSafe & #TakeCare!"

It issued an earlier warning about the wider area it covers saying it will have spreaders out on all routes in the north-west tonight with snow and low temperatures forecast.
