Emergency services are in attendance after a crash closed a busy Highland trunk road in both directions.

Traffic Scotland confirmed that the A835 Dingwall-Ullapool road is closed in both directions near Loch Garve.

Police are at the scene. A spokesperson for the force, speaking just after 3pm, said: "We were made aware of a crash on the A835 near Garve shortly after 1.45pm on Thursday.

"The road is currently blocked and emergency services are at the scene. Recovery has been arranged."

There was no immediate word as to the vehicles involved, or if there have been injuries.

The location of the incident means major diversions will be in place for motorists, with alternative routes taking drivers either down the west coast and then east through Glen Shiel to Invermoriston and then up the Great Glen; or up through Elphin and then east via Bonar Bridge and south via the Struie road and A9.
