Body found in river identified as that of missing Alness man; Family thanks emergency services and volunteers for efforts

POLICE today confirmed that a body found in an Easter Ross river earlier this week was that of a man posted missing in Alness.

A major search had been launched when Calum Mackenzie (41) of Alness was reported missing on Thursday, November 7.

The search included police, mountain rescue volunteers and helicopters as well as volunteers with the lifeboat service.

On Monday this week, police confirmed that a body had been found in the River Averon in Alness and that a post-mortem would be carried out.

Today they confirmed that it had been identified as Mr Mackenzie.

A statement from the police said: "The family of Mr Mackenzie wish to thank all the emergency services and volunteers who helped during the search."
