Fire crews were called to a blaze which swept through a house in Alness last night.

There were no reports of anybody injured after flames engulfed the two-storey property in the Kirkside area of the Ross-shire town.

The alarm was raised at about 7.15 pm, with two appliances from Invergordon Fire Station mobilised.

The station’s social media said the firefighters arrived to find the property “well alight”.

Using breathing apparatus, they repeatedly entered the house and brought the blaze under control using two main jets and two hose reel jets.

The crews then carried out extensive cutting away of walls within the whole house to check for further fire spread, before leaving the scene at 11.30 pm.

They returned this morning for further checks against possible fire spread, but have since declared the building safe and handed control of it to Highland Council.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokeswoman confirmed: “There were no reports of anyone injured in relation to the incident in a two-storey house in Alness.”

It was not clear whether the house was unoccupied or safely vacated at the time of the incident.
